Planned Data Center Practice Development to support Internal Initiatives and Clients

The Professional Services – Consulting and Integration business of Siemens IT Solutions and Services is focused on improving the competitiveness of our clients through the effective use of technology. We provide consulting services across the Consult / Design / Build continuum; offering a wide range of “HIGH VALUE” consulting services and solutions across the distributed computing spectrum. We are seeking a DATA CENTER OPTIMIZATION ARCHITECT – DATA CENTER OPTIMIZATION for our strategic team. We consider the position to have a flexible location: National – USA (Home Based – Virtual Office) with proximity to a major airport. This position has a travel component of greater than 50%.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a Data Center Architect you will contribute strategic vision as a trusted advisor and integrate a broad range of ideas regarding Technology Architecture related to data center operations and management. This is a senior architect role and you must be recognized for expertise and thought leadership in the industry in data center architectures, concepts, operations and management and generally sought out as a resource for resolution of unique or complex problems. You will undertake the most complex projects involving multiple disciplines which may impact multiple business units. Work as a team member with the cross-functional architectural disciplines to identify requirements and subsequently leading subordinate Infrastructure Technologists in the implementation of the local solution. The Data Center Architect may have subordinate reports with specialized infrastructure technology expertise. The Data Center Architect reports to a Practice Director and will provide support for account development activities, presales presentations and will be generally viewed as a subject matter expert resource in support of these activities. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Apply “best practice” operational design concepts to Data Center Transformation projects, i.e. ITSM/ITIL/Disaster Recovery/Security
  • Lead complex consulting engagements
  • Articulate at a strategic level IT operational frameworks and how they apply to Data Center Transformation initiatives
  • Integrate both the business operations and IT operational requirements into the solution design, including necessary interfaces with supplier communities
  • Build, develop and document infrastructure processes with a focus on technology growth, performance, reliability and security.
  • Understand the financial modeling components and concepts associated with data center consolidations
  • Maintain industry awareness and knowledge with the latest tools and technologies to support server virtualization, consolidation and application migrations on an enterprise scale
  • Drive costs out of the infrastructure without sacrificing supportability and stability, and maintaining an innovation around data integrity.
  • Design and implement processes and solutions for infrastructure monitoring for use as a 24x7x365 Worldwide Network Operations Center (NOC).
  • Build in-depth relationships with customers; leverage that relationship to further advance the technical vision and strategy.
  • Lead and mentor assigned subordinates in implementing infrastructure projects
  • Work with customers and project teams to integrate new systems into the end-user environment.
  • Understand competitive market dynamics

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • 10+ years of Information Technology experience including technical infrastructure and security experience, including team lead and trusted advisor roles.
  • Senior Consulting and project delivery skills.
  • Strong project planning and project management skills.
  • Has proven and verifiable project experience with data center consolidations and optimization, preferably across a global footprint and with multi-million dollar budget oversight
  • Must have verifiable background experience in all phases of engagement lifecycle from requirements to implementation as well as the ability to translate a strategy into a tactical, transformational work plan
  • Competency engagement development experience (Minimum 8 years experience in a combination of): Data Center Redesign / Consolidation; Server Consolidation / Virtualization; Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity; ITIL; Security; Applications & Data Migrations to new platforms (.Net, VMware, Linux)
  • Experience collaborating with software development teams.
  • Experience with software development processes, methodologies, and environments.
  • Process improvement, workflow, benchmarking and/or evaluation experience preferred.
  • Experience with VMware in large scale production environment. Migration experience.
  • Knowledge of virtualization tools such as PlateSpin, CiRBA, VMware capacity planner. Focused and action-oriented; pragmatic and self-disciplined; good at team motivation and delegation.
  • Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities.
  • Excellent communication, writing, meeting facilitation and presentation skills including presenting technical design, technical solutions and enterprise architecture solutions to executives and customers.
  • The ability to socialize ideas, make recommendations and gather team consensus to move forward.
  • Ability to have extensive travel (at times greater than 80%) to support our clients.

DESIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelors or Master degree in Information Technology area.
